Budapest Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Our hop-on-hop-off bus tour offers an excellent chance to learn about Budapest. During this trip, you can travel in the historical part of the city called Castle District (or the 1^st district). The merits of this beautiful region were acknowledged by UNESCO when it was enrolled in the list of the World Heritage. We won’t miss the most iconic places such as the Buda Castle, the Citadel, the House of the Hungarian Parliament, or the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. This latter one was the most modern chain bridge of Europe in the middle of the 19^th century. According to a popular urban legend, the four stone lions which guard the bridge have no tongues. However, the story is absolutely false: these big cats are short of nothing. The explanation is quite simple; their tongues can’t be seen from the pedestrians’ aspect. Crossing the bridge was not free; actually, there were various kinds of fees for pedestrians and others with cows, little or great cart. This was valid until 1918. Naturally, the Heros’ square is in our repertoire, too. If you hop off only at one stop, choose this one and watch the statues of the Hungarian kings, warlords, freedom fighters, and symbolic figures carefully. The square is bounded by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hall of Art which was built in eclectic style. In front of the square, you can find the Andrássy Avenue. Originally, at the end of it, there was a splendid fountain called Gloriette and designed by Miklós Ybl who was a famous architect of the 19^th century. Among others, he designed the Saint Stephen Basilica and the Hungarian National Opera House (both of them are masterpieces and were built in Neo-Renaissance style; we’ll see them during the Budapest sightseeing tour). Later, when the Heros’ square was designed, the building of the Gloriette was removed; now the well itself is hidden by a metal plate behind the Memorial Stone of Heroes.
